GIS Specialist

Garcia and Associates, a Natural and Cultural Resource Consultant, has a position opening for a full time salaried GIS Specialist in its Auburn California Office.

GIS Specialist – Ideal applicant should have a background in wildlife, botany, forestry or natural resources management or planning, and geographic information systems and have at least 4 years of work experience using ArcGIS 9.x. The job will primarily involve preparing GIS/GPS data and maps integrating Natural, Cultural, and Geospatial resources gathered from a wide variety of public and private sources. The ideal candidate will work with and support a diverse group, including wildlife, botany, ecology and planning and policy professionals. There will also be a field support component setting up and troubleshooting GPS equipment. This position requires fast paced work, and the ability to coordinate with a team of individuals.

Experience with MS Office and ESRI GIS software products is required, and experience with Trimble GPS, AutoCAD, geodatabase design, or Python scripting is desired. In addition, ArcPad, Application Builder, ETGeoWizard, MapBook experience is preferred.  Beneficial skills also include experience implementing open source software solutions such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, GeoServer, GeoDjango, OpenLayers, GDAL, and QGIS or similar.

Construction Monitor

Garcia and Associates (GANDA) has a full-time position for an Environmental Compliance Monitor.  The Environmental Compliance Monitor will inspect and monitor construction activities for compliance with biological and environmental requirements, including water quality, SWPPP, endangered species and nesting birds.  Duties include recording water quality measurements, conducting environmental trainings for construction personnel, and preparing daily monitoring logs and compliance reports.

Senior Architectural Historian

Garcia and Associates (GANDA) is seeking a Senior Architectural Historian to work from one of our six offices in California.  Specifically, we are looking for an architectural historian with a minimum of a Master’s degree and expertise in the following areas:

Botanist - Hawai'i

Garcia and Associates (GANDA) seeks to hire a full-time botanists in Hawai'i. Minimum qualifications include a B.S. degree in botany or a closely related field, and one to three years of professional botany experience in Hawai'i. Desirable skills include: demonstrated knowledge of local rare and sensitive plant species and their associated habitats, expertise with Garmin and Trimble GPS units, and experience with Microsoft Office. Successful applicant must possess competent technical writing skills, be able to travel, and be willing to work in remote locations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated plant taxonomic skills with the flora of the Hawaiian Islands (Hawaiian native and sensitive plant experience). Field Botanist

Minimum qualifications include a B.A. or B.S. degree in botany or a closely related field, and three years of professional field botany experience in California. Ecologist/Wetlands Biologist - Guam

Garcia and Associates (GANDA) seeks to hire a full-time wetlands biologist/ecologist to work in Guam. Minimum qualifications include a training and experience in wetlands delineations, B.A. or B.S. degree in botany, ecology, or a closely related field, and knowledge of Pacific Island flora and fauna. Senior Aquatic Ecologist

Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include leading a team of several aquatic biologists. Applicant will provide senior fisheries or benthic macroinvertebrate expertise and will be responsible for technical oversight of aquatics projects, project management, and some business development. Typical projects include impact assessment, mitigation planning, technical writing, data analysis, and modeling in compliance with NEPA, state environmental quality acts, FERC regulations, ESA, etc. Position will entail a combination of field and office work. Applicant must be willing and able to work on a variety of tasks and issues and handle tight deadlines.

Qualifications: The person hired will be based in the San Anselmo, San Francisco, or Auburn CA offices. Minimum education is an M.S. degree in aquatic ecology, fisheries science or related field. Experience in consulting, especially with aquatic resource impact assessments pertaining to hydropower and water resource development, is highly desirable. Qualified applicants will possess solid writing, communication, and computer skills, and be familiar with standard fisheries sampling and analytical techniques. Experience with hydrology, geomorphology, stream habitat assessment, and water quality assessment is also desirable.
